I guess it's time I weigh in on Hurricane Katrina and the tragic devastation on the Gulf Coast. The left has been working overtime to lay this solely at President Bush's door but charity begins at home and the City of New Orleans dropped the ball. Sure, they had a great plan, but they made no effort to implement it. And not just in Katrina but Hurricane Ivan, too.
By now we all know about the hundreds of now useless school buses that could have been used to evacuate city residents who had no cars.
The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) has come under criticism for a sluggish response; this appears to have bedeviled that agency since at least the
Clinton Administration.
Let's talk about the levees. What about the levees? The libs keep whining that President Bush cut the funding and that's why it broke, but apparently the part that broke through was
already modified and improved! (Hat tip to That Gay Conservative)
I could go on and on, but much has been said by others. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the babble from the German Minister of the Environment, J├╝rgen Trittin. Rather than speak to that on myself, read
this article by Claus Christian Malzahn, one outraged German.
I will close with a link to
Camojack, who was kind enough to post some great charitable organizations to help the people down South.

Hey, bud! Long time, no post. I see you've activated the word verification option, too. It's a drag that it became desirable to do so, huh?

On topic, it still amazes me how badly people want to blame everything on Dubya...

FEMA's Michael Brown Replaced

Discrepancies With FEMA Chief's Credentials Found

"Washington -- Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown is being removed from his role managing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, The Associated Press has learned.

"Brown is being sent back to Washington from Baton Rouge, where he was the primary official overseeing the federal government's response to the disaster, according to two federal officials who declined to be identified before the announcement.

"Brown will be replaced by Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad W. Allen, who was overseeing New Orleans relief and rescue efforts.

"Brown has been under fire because of the administration's slow response to the magnitude of the hurricane. On Thursday, questions were raised about whether he padded his resume to highlight his previous emergency management background.

"Time Magazine reported that his official bio and online legal profile have discrepancies."

About time! At least the people Clinton appointed had experience in the area.

My only question is, how do you 'pad' a resume when you're applying for a top government position??? They didn't call references, did they? Shame on them...idiots.

Well, it's FUN to blame Dubya .. how about that last Ice Age, the sonofabitch -- his fault...and Pompeii and Krakatoa -- what's his excuse there? Not born? Cut me a break. It has nothing to do with his behavior, altho he did freeze like a Dan Quayle deer in the headlights. He appointed a pal .. lots of them, paid them off with FEMA jobs ... the mayor of N.O. actually declared State of Emergency before the hurricane hit, which IS SUPPOSED TO TRIGGER FEMA. But that's just the way it is when you HATE government but KILL to get to run it... Dig this quote:
"FEMA is widely viewed as a 'dumping ground,' a turkey farm, if you will, where large numbers of positions exist that can be conveniently and quietly filled by political appointment," the preliminary report said. "This has led to a situation where top officials, having little or no experience in disaster or emergency management, are creating substantial morale problems among careerists and professionals. "
George Herbert Walker Bush, 1992

He ought to have listened to his daddy more, not just his mommy, the Queen Mother.
